Holidays.

I had a very enjoyable five days visiting family in California. No personal details because that's not really the point of the blog (and because most of the readership was there--hi mom!). But from the tourist perspective, we went to the Getty Villa, which was spectacular:

And the Santa Monica Pier, which was very touristy:

Random travel notes:
How many people do you think have never been on a plane before? On the flight over, the guy across the aisle from me was extremely frustrated by the ability of the person in front of him to recline the seat.

Gosh you have to do a lot of driving in Southern California.

They are doing an insane amount of work at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, and possibly doing it 24-7. I'm still doubtful they'll be ready for the Superbowl rush.

Speaking of the airport, if you eat only at restaurants advertised on the monitors in the baggage claim, you will not leave the French Quarter and you will not eat very good meals.

There is a brand of GPS out there that thinks St. Charles Avenue is actually "Louisiana Great River Drive." My cab driver had one.
